Baba Ramdev has decided to enter the telecom sector after his private company, Patanjali Ayurved Limited stormed the consumer goods industry. Patanjali announced its entry in the telecom sector with the launch of its “Swadeshi Samriddhi SIM cards”. The company has teamed up with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to offer these new SIM cards along with a new plan that will allow users to make unlimited calls across the country and use 2GB of data along with 100 SMSes for Rs 144.

The thing to note here is that these benefits will be limited to Patanjali office bearers and employees as reported by The Financial Express. This is not a proper launch and after the proper launch, Swadeshi Samriddhi SIM card holders can take advantage of the SIM cards by opting for 10 percent discount on Patanjali products. What is interesting is that users will also get life, accidental and health insurances along with these cards. The report pointed that the medical insurance worth Rs 2.5 lakh and life insurance worth Rs 5 lakh will be covered along with the “Swadeshi Samriddhi SIM cars”.

Ramdev stated that both Patanjali and BSNL want the welfare of the country. The report quoted him adding, “There are five lakh counters of BSNL and from there people can soon get Patanjali Swadeshi Samriddhi Card”.

Chief General Manager of BSNL, Sunil Garg stated “Patanjali’s plan is BSNL’s best plan” while giving the details of the plan. He further clarified that Patanjali members just have to show their identity card at BSNL counters to get a SIM card. The card will be activated “after some paperwork”.
