The revelation was made by Xiaomi India country head Manu Jain, who said the company would be focusing at its smartphone portfolio in India. Xiaomi has already announced it will be launching the Redmi Note 3 in India this quarter and is also expected to launch its flagship Mi 5 smartphone sometime later. According to Jain, India will have to wait for devices such as Air Purifiers and smart TV from Xiaomi s ecosystem and that the company will be focusing on its mobile portfolio this year. He also hinted that the company may not launch its Mi Band 1S despite good response to the predecessor last year.
We bought the Mi Band to India last year, and yes it was immensely popular. Some even said that it was the number one fitness tracker in India. However, for 2016, the primary focus in India will be around phones. there s a good chance that the TV may not launch here this year, Jain told Indian Express.
Other major focus areas of Xiaomi in 2016 are expanding e-commerce operations as well as fortifying its existing smartphone business and ecosystem in the country.
Amid a fierce competition, Xiaomi has been making various efforts to establish its base in the Indian market. Last year it expanded online partnership with e-commerce sites such as Amazon and Snapdeal after an exclusive association with Flipkart. It also started its own Mi.com online store and experimented with selling its smartphones in online channel too.
