The rule also requires such taxis to have GPS and GPRS based tracking devices, a printer and a display panel wherein the path traversed and total distance are to be displayed. Additionally, the licensee will also have to maintain a helpline center or operate through an authorized call center or web portal.
In addition, the licensee is also required to abide by Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the Information Technology Act, 2000. The licensee will also have to list details of its ownership, registered address, fare structure, contact details, control room number, insurance liabilities, services offered, and details of duly appointed grievance redressal officer among other relevant details on the website.
Uber was banned from operating in India s capital in the wake of the rape of a female passenger by a Uber-registered driver earlier this month. Last week, the company pledged to step up its security in India and announced several additional security features.
The company said that it will be re-verifying all Uber Delhi driver-partners with local police. A team will then verify the documents of all the drivers and perform an additional background screening. Additionally, it will set up a dedicated customer support center. And lastly, an enhanced ShareMyEta button feature will be added to the app wherein trip details like GPS coordinates, driver photo, name, vehicle license number etc could be quickly sent to passenger s loved ones.
