The mid-range segment from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 has quite a few decent options to choose from. While there are multiple brands trying to offer selfie-centric smartphones with premium features, there are some with overall better value for money.
Here is a list of 10 smartphones that are worth considering within a budget range of Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000.
Xiaomi Mi A2
Xiaomi’s latest Mi A2 makes it to our list of best smartphones to buy now under Rs 20,000. The Android One smartphone runs stock Android Oreo OS, and will soon be updated to Android Pie. Priced at Rs 16,999, the smartphone brings a 5.99-inch FHD+ display, Snapdragon 660 SoC, 4GB RAM, and 64GB internal storage. It also features a dual-camera setup at the back, 20-megapixel selfie camera, and a 3,000mAh battery with fast charging support.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro
The first contender in this price range is Xiaomi’s hot selling Redmi Note 5 Pro. The smartphone packs a dual-rear camera of 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel combination. It packs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636 SoC with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM. It features a 5.99-inch full-HD (1080×2160 pixels) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, 450-nit brightness and 2.5D curved glass. The fingerprint fingerprint sensor on the rear panel and face unlock are some of the other highlights in this smartphone.

Xiaomi had launched this smartphone at Rs 13,999 for the 4GB RAM, but increased price in May by Rs 1,000, and it now comes at Rs 14,999. The 6GB RAM variant is still priced at Rs 16,999.
Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1
Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 is another solid contender in this price range with the near-stock Android experience. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box and features similar specifications as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. It also packs a larger 5000mAh battery compared to the 4000mAh battery pack found under the hood of Redmi Note 5 Pro.
Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes in three different storage variants, and its prices start from Rs 10,999. The base model has 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage and retails for Rs 10,999, while the 4GB RAM variant with 64GB storage is priced at Rs 12,999. The company has also started offering a higher-end version with 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage at a retail price of Rs 14,999.
Honor 9N is the latest offering from Huawei sub-brand Honor in India. The Honor 9N is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 659 SoC, and it runs EMUI 8.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo. You get a 5.84-inch full-HD+ 19:9 IPS LCD screen, with a resolution of 1080×2280 pixels and a notch. The phone also features a fingerprint sensor at the back for biometric security. It comes in three storage variants – 3GB RAM+32GB internal storage for Rs 11,999, 4GB RAM+64GB internal storage for Rs 13,999, and 4GB RAM+128GB internal storage for Rs 17,999.
The Nokia 6.1 was launched in two variants in India – 32GB+3GB RAM priced at Rs 16,999, and 64GB+4GB RAM priced at Rs 18,999. However, it is now available at a relatively cheaper price offline as well as online, depending on where you look.
As for specifications, the Nokia 6.1 comes with a 5.5-inch IPS LCD full-HD display, Snapdragon 630 SoC, a 16-megapixel main camera, and an 8-megapixel front camera. The smartphone supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS and 4G LTE.
The Moto G6 comes with Motorola’s edge-to-edge sports a 5.7-inch full HD+ “Max Vision” with a taller 18:9 aspect ratio. The other highlight is the Dolby Audio preset modes. The device is completely wrapped in scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass with a 3D contoured back. The dual rear camera setup consists of 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel sensors. The Moto G6 will available for Rs 13,999 on Amazon India and at over 600 Moto Hub stores in the country, the company said.
Moto G6 Play
The Moto G6 Play is available for Rs 11,999 on Flipkart. The Moto G6 Play comes with a bigger 4000mAh battery as compared to Moto G6’s 3000mAh battery. It also comes with same 5.7-inch full HD+ “Max Vision” display. It features a 13 MP primary camera and 8MP selfie camera with LED flash and beautification mode.
Samsung Galaxy J8
The Samsung Galaxy J8 flaunts a 6-inch HD+ (1480×720 pixels) Infinity display with 18.5:9 aspect ratio and a dual-rear camera setup. Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 octa-core chipset paired with 4GB of RAM. There is also 64GB storage on offer, which can be expanded using a microSD card.
The Samsung Galaxy J8 is priced at Rs 18,990, and comes in three color options – blue, black and gold.
Vivo V9 Youth
After two recent price cuts, the Vivo V9 Youth is now available at Rs 16,990. The smartphone was first launched in April at Rs 18,990.
The Vivo V9 Youth runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage. The storage can further be expanded to 256GB via a microSD card. It features a 6.3-inch notch display with full-HD+ (2280×1080 pixels) resolution, and 19:9 aspect ratio. There’s a dual-camera setup at the back, which features a combination of 16-megapixel and 2-megapixel image sensors. For taking selfies, there is a 16-megapixel camera up front, supplemented with AI enhancements.
Oppo F7 4GB variant
The Oppo F7 is the most expensive smartphone in this list. It is now priced at Rs 19,990. The phone was launched in March at a price of Rs 21,990.
As for the specifications, the Oppo F7 offer notch display with 6.23-inch full-HD+ (1080×2280 pixels) and a 19:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by a MediaTek Helio P60 octa-core SoC coupled with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM. But the one under Rs 20,000 is the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant. The big highlight is its 25-megapixel front AI camera with an f/2.0 aperture.
Moto Z2 Play
While the Moto Z2 Play is an old offering, it still holds good in this price segment. The Moto Z2 Play variant with 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, and dual-SIM card support is available at around Rs 16,000 on Amazon, as opposed to its launch price of Rs 27,999.
As for features and specifications, Moto Z2 Play features a a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) Super AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The smartphone is powered by a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 626 octa-core processor. It sports a 12-megapixel rear camera with a 1.4-micron pixel sensor and dual-LED flash. There is a 5-megapixel selfie camera with an f/2.2 aperture and dual-LED flash with wide-angle lens. Being a Z-series device, you can also use Moto’s Mod ecosystem for additional functionality.
