Bharti Airtel has come up with new open market plan in order to stay competitive against its peers in the industry. The second largest telecom player has announced Rs 289 plan as an open market offer that combines data, voice and SMS into a single benefit.
The new Rs 289 plan from the company comes with a validity of 48 days and is aimed to compete with Rs 295 prepaid plan from Idea Cellular. The plan from Idea Cellular has a validity of 42 days, which makes Airtel’s plan not only cheaper but also available for a longer duration of time. However, Idea Cellular seems to be ahead of its rival in terms of benefits offered with the tariff plan.
Bharti Airtel Rs 289 Plan: All you need to know
In terms of benefits, Bharti Airtel offers benefits like voice calls, which includes local, STD and roaming calls for the entire validity period. Alongside voice calls, Bharti Airtel also offers 1GB of 2G/3G/4G data and 100 SMS per day. The USP of this plan is that it is open market and there is no limit on voice calls. The plan has a validity of 48 days and is applicable to every Airtel user regardless of the device that they are using right now.
How it is compared to Idea Cellular’s offer
Airtel’s new tariff plan competes with Rs 295 plan from Idea Cellular. With its prepaid plan, Idea Cellular also offers unlimited voice calls but it is capped to 250 minutes per day or 1000 minutes per week. The plan offers more data than Airtel’s tariff plan.
Idea Cellular offers 5GB of 2G/3G/4G data for a period of 42 days and also comes bundled with 100 SMS per day. Idea Cellular is offering more data with this plan but voice calls are limited in terms of minutes of usage.

Comparison with Bharti Airtel’s Rs 299 voice only plan
Bharti Airtel also offers Rs 299 prepaid plan, which is conceived as an unlimited voice call plan. It offers unlimited voice calls without any FUP limit for 45 days. The new Rs 289 plan from Airtel is much better than the existing Rs 299 plan since it offers more voice benefits and bundles data too.
