Optiemus Infracom has scheduled an event in New Delhi at 11:00AM where it will officially launch the Evolve and Evolve X. The smartphones are believed to be the devices initially codenamed BlackBerry Ghost and Ghost Pro. While we have heard rumors about the device in the past, BlackBerry India made the name official with a video teaser yesterday. It also confirmed the existence of dual rear camera setup, and metal unibody design. Also Read - Samsung Galaxy S20 FE Long-term Review
BlackBerry may have lost out to bigger brands like Samsung and Apple in the global smartphone market, but it continues to command a following in countries like India. BlackBerry KeyOne, despite its higher price tag and mid-range specifications, has reportedly done well with enterprise customers, and with new Evolve smartphones, the company will be targeting mainstream consumers. The timing could not have been any better. Counterpoint Research reported early this week that Indian smartphone market returned to double digit growth in the second quarter, and consumers are spending more money on premium devices.
BlackBerry Evolve rumored specifications and features
While the information related to Evolve and Evolve X remain sparse at this point in time, both the devices are confirmed to feature a touchscreen display with taller 18:9 aspect ratio.
Renowned tipster Evan Blass had first shared the images of BlackBerry Evolve and Evolve X back in March. The images revealed that these two devices will drop the keyboard in favor of a full touchscreen display. They are also likely to feature thinner bezels around the display, and a tiny chin to house the BlackBerry branding. The Evolve and Evolve X are said to be premium bezel-less devices, and could differ mainly in terms of display size and price.
While we don’t know details of the processor or memory configuration of these devices, the teaser video does confirm that at least one of these devices will feature vertically-stacked dual rear camera setup. The video also confirms rear-mounted fingerprint sensor alongside the BlackBerry logo. The smartphones will use USB Type-C port for charging, and might drop the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Ahead of the launch, Slashleaks has got hold of the retail package of BlackBerry Evolve. The package, which also acts as invite for the event, shows a device with tall display and relatively small bezels. It will run Android Oreo with BlackBerry’s own suite of security applications. BlackBerry Key2 was launched in India at a retail price of Rs 42,990. Since Blass claims that these two models with be premium devices, we might see Evolve and Evolve X being priced at the higher end.
