BlackBerry Key2 is more durable than the BlackBerry KeyONE

Last year’s BlackBerry KeyONE may not have been the flagship device that a lot of people were expecting, instead sitting in the upper-mid range category as either a very good mid-tier phone or an entry-level premium productivity machine. It combined the modern approach of having a touch screen and a usable smartphone operating system (the phone ran on Android) with the classic experience of a physical QWERTY keypad. Unfortunately, it wasn’t very durable, and the question now is whether the new BlackBerry Key2 improves on that. Considered to be the authority on smartphone and electronic durability, YouTuber JerryRigEverything had found the Blackberry KeyONE to fall woefully short of expectations when it came to build quality and durability. He has now put the new BlackBerry Key2 through his series of stress-tests, and he reports that the phone is significantly more durable and better built than its predecessor. JerryRigEverything’s videos can be particularly painful to watch as he deliberately damages the smartphones on camera, but they provide some interesting insights into how phones are built. The new phone performs better in the burn test and scratch test, showing negligible damage which just about qualifies as cosmetic in nature. Where the phone shows a big improvement is the bend test, where the screen holds its position and the phone doesn’t take too much damage even under serious physical stress.

BlackBerry Key2 Price and Specifications

The BlackBerry Key2 is set to go on sale in India on July 31 on Amazon India, and will be priced at Rs 42,990. The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, and will come with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The signature feature is, once again, the physical QWERTY keypad, which sits right below the 4.5-inch 1080×1620-pixel (3:2 aspect ratio) IPS LCD screen. The phone also features a fingerprint sensor built into the space key, and a 12-megapixel + 12-megapixel dual-camera setup at the rear.
