If you’re a fan of BlackBerry and someone who swears by physical QWERTY keyboards, the BlackBerry Key2 is arguably the best smartphone you can buy today. However, at Rs 42,990, the Key2 certainly doesn’t come cheap. If the price is something that’s been holding you off from taking the plunge, you may want to wait for the much-rumored Key2 LE.

Essentially a “Lite” and more-affordable version of the Key2, BlackBerry Key2 LE is all but confirmed to be made official on August 30 at IFA 2018 in Berlin. With the launch just two weeks away, a fresh batch of (official-looking) Key2 LE renders has surfaced online, providing a clearer look at the soon-to-be-announced physical keyboard-toting smartphone.

The renders show the BlackBerry Key2 LE to be virtually-identical in appearance to the original BlackBerry Key2. However, the back of the smartphone seems to be made of plastic. In comparison, the Key2’s rear panel is made from polycarbonate and has a much-better textured finish. The Key2 LE could also come with a plastic frame as opposed to the metal frame on the Key2. It is also said to come with a wider choice of colors.

BlackBerry Key2 LE is also expected to have less-capable innards than the flagship Key2. The upcoming smartphone is rumored to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC, paired with 4GB of RAM. For imaging, the Key2LE may include a dual-camera system at the back, comprised of a 13-megapixel sensor and a 5-megapixel sensor. A 3,000mAh battery will likely be included to keep the lights on.

As far as the signature feature of BlackBerry smartphones – physical keyboard – is concerned, the Key2 LE will have a QWERTY keyboard, but without support for swipe gestures. That said, the software-based security features, such as the DTEK Security Suite, will most-likely be on-board the Key2 LE.
