At some point in life, a lot of us had BlackBerry smartphones. This was before easy-to-access 3G connectivity, and the era of the smartphone. Back then, Blackberry’s unique offerings of on-the-go push email connectivity, and the popular BlackBerry Messenger changed the way we used our phones. It didn’t last too long though, and once Android and iOS smartphones became mainstream, BlackBerry slid into a decline that it never recovered from. However, Blackberry still exists today, albeit in a vastly different form with the brand licensed to other companies such as TCL and Optiemus Infracom for manufacturing. We still see new launches, and the Blackberry brand got its latest release in the Blackberry Key2. The successor to last year’s Keyone, the BlackBerry Key2 follows the same philosophy, but comes with upgraded hardware. We take a look at the differences between the Key2 and Keyone. BlackBerry Key2 Vs BlackBerry Keyone: Pricing

While the BlackBerry Keyone was launched in India at Rs 39,990 last year, the Key2 is priced slightly higher at Rs 42,900. It is available to purchase from Amazon India, and ICIC Bank card users can avail 5 percent cashback too. The pricing is for the 64GB variant, and the more expensive variant with 128GB of storage hasn’t been launched in India.

BlackBerry Key2 Vs BlackBerry Keyone: Design and Display

Apart from small tweaks that add a bit of polish and improvement, the design of the BlackBerry Key2 is largely unchanged from its predecessor. Central to the design is the 4.5-inch 1080×1620-pixel IPS LCD screen, with the physical QWERTY keyboard right below it. The phone’s fingerprint sensor is once again within the spacebar on the keyboard. The only significant change at the back is the dual-camera setup.

BlackBerry Key2 Vs BlackBerry Keyone: Specifications and Software

The major differences between the two phones are found here. The BlackBerry Key2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, which will offer significant performance improvements over the Snapdragon 625 chipset on the Keyone. Additionally, RAM gets a bump up from 4GB on the Keyone to 6GB on the Key2, and internal storage on the base variant is now 64GB. A 128GB variant will also be launched later.

There is no increase in battery capacity, with the Key2 coming with a 3,500mAh battery just like before. The new device also comes with Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box, with Blackberry’s near-stock Android UI on top. The Keyone launched with Android 7.1 Nougat.

BlackBerry Key2 Vs BlackBerry Keyone: Cameras

While the BlackBerry Keyone came with a single 12-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front camera, the BlackBerry Key2 jumps on the dual-camera bandwagon with a 12-megapixel + 12-megapixel rear camera setup. The front camera on the new phone remains the same in terms of megapixels, but the aperture is widened to f/1.8 on the rear camera and f/2.0 on the front camera. The second 12-megapixel sensor at the back comes with an f/2.6 aperture for depth-effect photography.
