BlackBerry is all set to unveil the KEYone smartphone in India today. BlackBerry will be launching the smartphone at an event in New Delhi scheduled to start at 11:00AM. The KEYone was first teased at CES 2017, and unveiled at MWC 2017. The smartphone is currently available in the US, priced at $549 that rounds off to Rs 36,500 approximately. The KEYone is said to be BlackBerry s last in-house designed, and developed smartphone. Prior to BlackBerry s India launch announcement, the smartphone was listed on an Indian retailer s website with a price tag of Rs 39,999. The India pricing and availability details are all that remains a mystery now. BlackBerry revives the company s classic physical QWERTY keypad with the KEYone. While the keypad retains the classic look, it is also a smart keyboard as each key can be programmed to bring up apps or contacts mostly used. The QWERTY keyboard also doubles as a touchpad allowing one to slide across to navigate between homescreens and webpages.
In terms of design, the smartphone flaunts a metallic frame and a soft textured back for easier grip. The smartphone also comes with a fingerprint sensor which is embedded in the spacebar. As seen in the BlackBerry DTEK-series, the KEYone also comes with security features to monitors OS and apps and also keep users informed about their privacy status. In terms of specifications, the BlackBerry KEYone features a 4.5-inch full HD IPS LCD display with aspect ratio of 3:2 and pixel density of 433ppi. The KEYone is powered by Qualcomm s Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC clocked at 2.5GHz, and paired with 3GB of RAM. For photography, the KEYone sports a 12-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, EIS, 4K video recording at 30fps and dual-tone LED flash. It is the same Sony IMX378 sensor that Google has used on the Pixel and the Pixel XL smartphones. Up front, the smartphone sports an 8-megapixel front facing camera featuring f/2.2 aperture, and 84-degree wide-angle field of view lens. Its connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, 3.5mm audio jack and USB Type-C port. The smartphone is fuelled by a 3,505mAh battery along with Quick Charge 3.0 support. On the software front, it runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
