Priv, BlackBerry s first Android-based smartphone, is set to be launched soon. The smartphone has already generated a lot of buzz for its unique design, BlackBerry s stint with Android and perhaps the fact that its success will decide the company s future. While the official images of the Priv have already been released, BlackBerry has now launched an official promo video detailing the functionalities of the smartphone. In the video, BlackBerry tries to convince how the slider design – though reminiscent to the phones in 2005-2006 – helps make optimum use of the a touchscreen and physical QWERTY keyboard. While the video focuses on design and ease of use, BlackBerry in a separate blog post explained how the new phone surpasses the conventional Android phones in terms of protecting users privacy. …we at BlackBerry think we can do better. PRIV by BlackBerry will bring BlackBerry mobile privacy, security and productivity to the Android world. With full access to Google Mobile Services, the Google Play app store, the latest hardware specs, and a revolutionary slide-out, touch-enabled keyboard, PRIV offers a no-compromise user experience to privacy-minded consumers and enterprises, says the company in the post.

BlackBerry is making all out efforts to sustain in a highly competitive smartphone market. After finding itself behind in the competition, BlackBerry switched gears and strategy to launch touch phones, better specced devices and even making its services available on different platforms. Its recent BlackBerry Passport was well received, but the company needs more to survive in the market. BlackBerry CEO John Chen s recent revelation that if BlackBerry doesn t hit the 5 million sales target it might consider exiting the business came as little surprise.
