In the past couple of months, we have seen BlackBerry’s P’9982 Porsche Edition surface online quite a few times in leaked photos and hands-on videos. Now, the Canadian company has officially announced the luxurious smartphone and it will be available at select stores globally from tomorrow onwards. In addition to the Porsche Edition, BlackBerry also announced the limited-edition Crocodile model, which will be available in December. The P’9982 is essentially a Z10 and specifications-wise it features a 4.2-inch (1280×768 pixels) display and 1.5GHz dual-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM. The Porsche Edition though gets a bump in internal storage, which is now 64GB that can be further expanded using a microSD card. Other features included are an 8-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front camera and a 1,800mAh battery which is said to be good enough for 8 hours or talktime and up to 10 days on standby mode. Connectivity options include LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC. On the software front, the device runs on a customized edition of BB10.2 OS, with features like BlackBerry Priority Hub and BBM video with screen share among others. Buyers will also get a ‘unique’ BBM PIN that will make users of the smartphone ‘instantly recognizable.’
In terms of design, the Porsche designers have taken the Z10 and added Italian leather and stainless steel to give the smartphone an ultra-premium look. BlackBerry is also offering multiple colored Italian leather backs, to help customize one’s phone.
The luxurious smartphone will be unveiled tomorrow at an event Harrods in London. Though the exact price hasn’t been mentioned, it is expected to be around $2,250 or Rs 140,800 approximately. There’s no word on when the P’9982 will arrive in India.
