State-run telecommunication giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is currently testing 4G infrastructure. The telecom company has not yet rolled out 4G connectivity in the market where its rivals including Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea are already offering 4G services. According to estimates, BSNL may be about six months away from the official roll out of its 4G services across India. As a standard procedure, the company is currently testing the 4G network in a number of telecom circles in the Southern part of the country. According to the information available on the internet, the company did a “soft launch” of its 4G services in Idukki district in Kerala.
According to a report by Telecomtalk, the company plans to upgrade about 250 telecom towers to offer 4G services. The thing to note with this tower upgrade is that users will not be able to use 3G services. The report also included a number of ‘Speed Test’ results of the BSNL 4G network that the company is currently testing in the Kerala circle.

Taking a closer look at the screenshots, the 4G test network by BSNL is offering download speed of up to 24.6 Mbps and upload speed of 9.25 Mbps. These results are in line with the connectivity speeds that its rivals are currently offering in the market.
However, it is essential to note that the speeds that are part of the ‘Speed Test’ results are part of a congestion free network. We should wait and check the download speeds when a considerable amount of people have signed up on the network.
The ‘Speed Test’ results indicate that the test network is offering download speeds of more than 20 Mbps. These download speeds are more than the global average of 4G speeds according to a report by OpenSignal.
