BSNL has become one of the strongest rival to private telecom players in India’s highly competitive broadband market. The state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has continuously revamped its tariff plans to stay competitive against rivals Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone. While its wireless mobile business has not been affected hugely by the entry of Reliance Jio, its broadband business could face pressure from the availability of Reliance Jio GigaFiber. In an attempt to circumvent the threat of JioGigaFiber’s availability, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced a new offer, where it is giving 25 percent cashback to those purchasing annual broadband plans. The move can be seen as a way to retain subscribers for the next year, who might switch to Jio when it commercially starts offering its broadband service. How BSNL’s cash offer will work
Interestingly, the cashback offer announced by BSNL is not really a traditional cashback offer instead it offers cashback that will lower your bill payment. Vivek Banzal, Director of Consumer Fixed Access business at BSNL, calls the cashback offer as a gift to its customers. “We wanted to gift our customers something special for their overwhelming response to our services and products,” he said.
BSNL, like rivals in the wireless mobile space, is essentially trying to retain its existing subscribers who might jump to Jio‘s offering as it becomes available in their area. As part of this cashback offer, BSNL will sign up customers for a full year and the customers will save money on their bill payments.
A 25 percent cashback means that customers will get three months of their broadband plan for free. Telecom Talk reports that the BSNL customers will have to call toll free number 18003451500 or visit a customer service center to avail this cashback offer. The offer is not even listen on BSNL’s website suggesting that it is a limited time offer likely to retain as many customers as possible.
Reliance JioGigaFiber launch expected soon
Reliance JioGigaFiber‘s commercial roll out was expected to happen by the end of this year but however, the launch seems to have been pushed back to early 2019. Reliance Jio is already running pilot programs in select cities that are aimed at getting initial feedback on speed and reliability.

The Mukesh Ambani-led company has also asked customers interested in its broadband service to register their areas for service. The commercial roll out is expected to happen in a staged manner and customers are expected to get at least three months of free service. It is also expected to offer bundled IPTV subscription as it aims to penetrate into Indian households with its JioGigaFiber broadband service.
