BSNL challenges Reliance Jio with new Rs 75 prepaid plan

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, the state-owned telecom operator has become one of the strongest competitor to Reliance Jio. BSNL has constantly updated its existing tariff plan and introduced new ones that challenge brands like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone.

Now, BSNL has introduced a new Rs 75 prepaid plan as we see telecom players shifting their focus to plans priced under Rs 100. The new Rs 75 prepaid plan from BSNL offers 10GB of data, unlimited calling benefits and 500 SMS for a period of 15 days. Those subscribing to this plan will also be eligible to extend the validity by 90 or 180 days by paying up an additional amount.

BSNL says the new Rs 75 prepaid plan will come with unlimited calling support except for subscribers in Mumbai or Delhi area. The plan also comes with 10GB of mobile data for the entire validity period of 15 days and subscribers will get 500 SMS during this time period. The plan has been initially introduced only in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana circle but the company is expected to expand to other markets as well. This new tariff plan is described as ‘BSNL Jeevitha Prepaid Plan’ in those two circles.

BSNL Rs 75 Prepaid Plan: How to extend validity

This new prepaid plan from BSNL comes with one added feature where subscribers can extend the validity and gain additional benefits. In order to extend validity, BSNL users will have to recharge their number with an STV of minimum of Rs 98. Those who recharge with an STV priced between Rs 98 and Rs 199 will get validity extension of 90 days on their plan.

People who recharge their number using STV priced higher than Rs 199 will get extension of 180 days on the original Rs 75 prepaid plan. According to Telecom Talk, BSNL offers STV priced at Rs Rs 98, Rs 99, Rs 118, Rs 139, Rs 187, Rs 198, Rs 319, Rs 333, Rs 339, Rs 349, Rs 395, Rs 444, Rs 447 and Rs 551. BSNL will not credit the validity extension if subscribers buy them from self-care, web self-care or via USSD.

BSNL’s Rs 75 prepaid plan versus Idea Cellular

Idea Cellular (now also called Vodafone Idea Ltd) also offers Rs 75 prepaid plan in its portfolio. The plan from Idea Cellular offers 18,000 local, STD and roaming seconds to its subscribers. It also offers 1GB of 2G/3G/4G data and 100 SMS for the entire validity period of 28 days.
