State-owned telecom operator BSNL has announced that it has discontinued seven of its prepaid plans across different telecom circles. The plans withdrawn by the operator include the special tariff vouchers (STV), combo STV and the recently revised prepaid data plan priced at Rs 821. The telecom operator confirmed that it has withdrawn its plans including STV plans of Rs 398, Rs 629, Rs 2,399, Rs 821 and Rs 1,949, while two other plans discontinued are Rs 3,099 and Rs 1,402. The operator also confirmed that BSNL subscribers will not be able to recharge with the above mentioned tariff plans starting today. The move will disappoint some BSNL users, but it also paves way for the recently introduced ‘KOOL’ prepaid plan. With “KOOL” offer for its prepaid customers, BSNL is offering a validity of 365 days at a recharge of Rs 999. With the plan, BSNL users will get unlimited internet access and the unlimited calling benefit for the first 181 days and voice calls be charged at 60 paise per minute for both on-net as well as off-net calls for rest of the validity period.
BSNL has also started its own Wi-Fi hotspots in the country, which its customers can connect to with a single registration. The company has started Wi-Fi+ feature that is available as part of its My BSNL app. The service requires one-time login via the app, and BSNL subscribers will be able to access almost 44 million hotspots across 100 countries.
The hotspots include ones from public places as well as those on international flights and rail systems. The company says this Wi-Fi+ service will be available across countries and continents. The service is available with three different tariff plans, With Rs 999 recharge, the service can be availed for seven days while recharge of Rs 1,599 and Rs 1,999 offers free international Wi-Fi for 15 days and 30 days respectively.
“BSNL is the first among the Indian Mobile operators to have taken this big step forward makes it simple to use Wi-Fi data,” said R.K.Mittal Director (CM), BSNL.
