BSNL recently unveiled a new postpaid plan to take on rivals Vodafone, Airtel and Reliance Jio. The plan is priced at Rs 299, and is aimed at new customers. As a part of the plan, users get unlimited local and national calling, unlimited texts and unlimited data. The unlimited calling is limited to BSNL circles, which means the free voice calling and roaming won’t be applicable in Mumbai and Delhi circles where the state-run telco has no presence.
Secondly, though the plan bundles unlimited texts, there is a cap of 100 SMS per day, which can be both local and national. Lastly, the plan also offers unlimited data, but there is an FUP. Users get 31GB high-speed 3G (or 2G) data through the validity without any daily limits. However, once the given limit is crossed, the speed will be throttled down to 80Kbps. Also, while competitors offer carry forward data, BSNL doesn’t have any such option.
In comparison, Reliance Jio has a plan priced at Rs 199, which offers unlimited local and national calls without any FUP, 100 free local and national SMS daily, and complimentary subscription to Jio app suite. In terms of data benefits, users get 25GB high-speed data, and once the limit is hit, users can still continue downloading at 4G speeds, but they will be charged at Rs 20 per GB.
Vodafone also has a plan priced at Rs 299 which offers unlimited calling without any FUP, 100 SMS every month, and 20GB 4G/3G/2G data. Just like BSNL, even Vodafone doesn’t offer any carry forward data with this plan, but BSNL still gets a little advantage as it offers 31GB data, compared to 25GB on Vodafone.
