The state-run BSNL has now revised its Rs 241 prepaid data special tariff voucher (STV) plan as a part of promotion, reports TelecomTalk. The Rs 241 STV for prepaid users is a data-only plan, and it doesn t offer voice calling or SMS benefits like the unlimited plans. BSNL was earlier providing a total of 7GB data for Rs 241 STV, but after the revision, the plan now gives a user total of 75GB of 2G/3G data for the entire validity period. This STV plan comes with a validity of 30 days, unlike other plans from BSNL which are valid for 28 days. BSNL’s prepaid Rs 241 STV data plan after the revision will split the 75GB data over 30 day validity period, and users will be able to use 2.5GB per day FUP for 2G/3G data only. The new benefits will become effective from September 10 and will expire on December 5.
According to report, the plan is currently revised for Kerala circle only and other circle might announce the same revision in the next few days. Also, BSNL will decide whether or not it will continue the benefits of Rs 241 STV prepaid data only plan after December 5 or not.
The plan offers only 2G and 3G data as BSNL doesn’t have 4G services in all circles, although that is going to change soon. The Department of Telecommunication (DoT) has reportedly approved BSNL s proposal of 2100MHz spectrum for launching 4G services.
BSNL had submitted a request to acquire spectrum worth Rs 13,885 crore, seeking Rs 6,652 crore as equity infusion from the government. It d initially wanted to cover the remaining cost through the revenue generated over the next decade. Now, after an inter-ministerial group s recommendation, that time-frame has been extended to 16 years.
