Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, the state-owned telecom operator is once again challenging the mainstream players in the telecom circle, with a new postpaid plan. The operator has launched a new postpaid plan with a rental of Rs 499 that rivals offers from leading private players.
The new Rs 499 postpaid plan from BSNL offers 45GB of data and unlimited voice calls without any FUP limit. The state-owned player recently announced some changes to its postpaid tariff plan and as a result, the new Rs 499 postpaid plan also comes bundled with 100 SMS per day. The offer basically makes BSNL competitive against the likes of Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular. However, it’s worth noting that BSNL does not offer 4G data services, but only 3G.
The telecom operators, who have been competing extensively, in the prepaid segment are now shifting their focus to postpaid segment. BSNL is not alone launching new postpaid plans. Reliance Jio, which has become the fastest growing telecom player, has also introduced a number of postpaid plans to woo customers away from the incumbent players. After amassing a large number of subscribers, the telecom players are now looking for consumers in the postpaid segment, who will stick around for a longer duration.
The new Rs 499 postpaid plan from BSNL follows the launch of Rs 399 plan and the biggest selling point here being the 45GB of monthly data. While the data capacity matches that offered by its competitors, BSNL’s plan is missing out on data rollover facility. BSNL says after consumption of 45GB of data, customers will not be charged for excess data but the speed will drop to 40kbps, reports Telecom Talk.
BSNL postpaid users subscribing to this plan can avail 15GB of additional data at Rs 100. The plan seems to offer much better benefits than that offered as part of Rs 399 postpaid plan. In comparison, Airtel and Vodafone offers 75GB data benefit with the Rs 499 tariff plan. Idea Cellular, on the other hand, offers 40GB data benefit with its Rs 499 plan.

With the Rs 499 postpaid plan, Airtel and Idea Cellular offer 100 SMS per day while BSNL and Vodafone offer 100 SMS for the entire validity period. BSNL definitely has some work to do when it comes to catching up with incumbents and lack of 4G does not help it either.
