A few months ago, Google rebranded Android Wear platform to Wear OS, but after the initial set of smartwatches from Motorola and LG, manufacturers have gone incognito. But that hasn’t stopped Casio from announcing a new smartwatch. Built for outdoor adventures, the new model, Pro Trek WSD-F20A features the same rugged design, along with flat tire display.
While the new model is slightly affordable compared to the other models, it still costs $400 (approximately Rs 26,300). It will go on sale starting May in the US, but there is no word on whether it will be launched in India or not. With 50 meters water resistance, the Pro Trek watch comes with MIL-STD 810G durability rating, which essentially means that it should be able to withstand accidental drops without any issues.
Casio has packed a number of sensors on the smartwatch such as activity tracker which tracks the number of steps you walked, your sleep patterns and more. Besides these, as the smartwatch is meant for outdoor adventures, such as hiking, it comes with a digital compass, barometer and altimeter. And it also comes with a low-powered built-in GPS, so you don’t have to rely on your smartphone for location.

The watchmaker has also mentioned talked about dual-layer LCD screen and a microphone, but there is no word on whether or not it will allow you to make calls. One of the interesting features is that it makes accessing maps easier, and with offline download option, you can navigate around even in places where connectivity is an issue.
Lastly, Casio has mentioned that it has partnered with nine major app brands to offer outdoor and sports for its users. Some of these apps include Fishbrain, ViewRanger, and Hole19. All of these apps can be found within the companion app, in the “featured apps” section.
