Celkon has launched a new smartphone called Uniq in India at Rs 8,999. The Celkon Uniq is a budget device made locally at company’s manufacturing plant in Andhra Pradesh.

Celkon Uniq Specifications and features

The Celkon Uniq features a 5-inch display with an HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and 2.5D curved glass on top. Powering the device is a 1.3GHz quad-core processor coupled with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. The smartphone also supports expandable storage up to 32GB via microSD card slot.

It features a 16-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, but the selfie camera is one of its selling points. The Uniq gets an 8-megapixel front camera with moonlight flash for better selfies in low-light. The smartphone supports connectivity options like WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, 4G LTE with voice over LTE (VoLTE) support.

There is also a fingerprint sensor at the front designed similar to the Touch ID button on Apple iPhone. The smartphone runs Android 7.0 Nougat and includes 3.5mm audio jack and FM Radio support. The device is backed by a 2,700mAh battery and will be available in gold and grey color finish.

Celkon was one of the first smartphone brands to support government’s Make In India and Digital India initiative. The company started making its smartphones and tablets locally at company’s Tirupati plant in 2015. The company had also roped in Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli as its brand ambassador. The new Uniq from Celkon should be available via offline retail stores and seems expensive for what it offers in the price range.
