Intel has recently shown a greater focus towards the wearable segment. After unveiling the SD-card sized Edison chipset at last year s CES, today CEO Brian Krzanich unveiled a new chipset for wearable devices that is the size of a coat button. The Quark SE features a low-power 32-bit microcontroller with 384kB of flash memory and 80kB SRAM. The chipset also comes with an array of sensors including accelerometer, gyroscope and Bluetooth LE support. Also Read - Top 5 affordable laptops for basic video editing/casual gaming
Along with the chipset, Intel also announced Curie. It is essentially a development module that will let companies make wearable devices out of anything. Krzanich revealed how using Curie and Quark, you could build a wearable device out of anything from rings, bags, bracelets, pendants or glasses among others.
Curie and Quark SE will be available sometime in the second half of this year. There is however no word on the pricing at the moment.
