Ahead of CES 2017, Dell has launched two new products – the XPS 13, a 2-in-1 convertible laptop with fanless design, and Dell 27 Ultrathin monitor with a 27-inch QHD display. Prices for the XPS 13 convertible laptop start at $999.99 (which is approximately Rs 68,150) and will go on sale in the US starting January 5. The Dell 27 Ultrathin monitor, on the other hand, starts at $699 (which is approximately Rs 48,000), and will go on sale starting March 23 in the US. The Dell XPS 13 has been one of the best Windows laptop around and the new one takes things a few notches up. Talking about the new Dell XPS 13, it features a body made from aluminum body, which adds to its premium look and while, while also offering sturdiness. The convertible features an InfinityEdge display with 5.2mm thin border. The 13.3-inch panel is squeezed into a frame of an 11-inch laptop, which Dell claims to be the smallest 13-inch 2-in-1 convertible model on the planet. The display is a touchscreen one with Corning Gorilla Glass protection, and the lid hinge allows for 360-degrees rotation. Dell XPS 13 2-in1 specifications and features
The convertible laptop is offered in two variants — one featuring a 13.3-inch full-HD (1080p) display and other featuring a slightly higher resolution UltraSharp Quad-HD+ display running at a resolution of 3200×1800 pixels. You can also choose between two chipset options — one featuring Intel’s seventh generation Core i5-7Y54 processor with TurboBoost speed up to 3.2GHz, and other featuring a Intel Core i7-7Y75 processor with TurboBoost speed up to 3.6GHZ. Both variants are paired with Intel HD Graphics 615 and 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM clocked at 1866MHz. Customers can also go for 8GB and 16GB memory configurations by paying a little extra. On the storage front, the base model ships with a 128GB SATA SSD, and option for higher configurations included 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB PCIe based SSD are also available. Taking about connectivity ports, you get one Thunderbolt 3 port, one USB Type-C 3.1 port, one DisplayPort, a 3.5mm headphone jack, microSD card reader, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.2. What’s more, you also get Intel Smart Connect technology and Miracast support for screen mirroring.
Coming to battery life, the full-HD variant is fuelled with a 46Whr battery, which Dell says can last for up to 15 hours, and can stream Netflix content for up to nine hours. On paper, purely based on the hardware and claimed battery life, the Dell XPS 13 could be an apt option for those looking for a powerful productivity laptop.
Dell 27 Ultrathin monitor specifications and features
Talking about the Dell 27 Ultrathin Monitor (S2718D), the key highlight is its sleek and slim design. It flaunts a 27-inch QHD display running at a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels with a 60Hz refresh rate. According to Dell, the monitor can offer 99 percent sRGB colour gamut, maximum brightness of 400 nits and viewing angle of 178-degrees. For connectivity, the monitor is equipped with a USB Type-C port with power delivery charging method, HDMI 2.0 port and a line-out for audio. There is also an HDR-ready version, which users can opt for by paying a little extra.
