At CES 2017, it was Huawei s turn today. As promised, Huawei showcased its recently announced Mate 9 smartphone at the event, which starting today, will also go on sale in the US. As for user who already own a Huawei Mate 9, they will be receiving an over-the-air (OTA) update for the integration of Amazon Alexa. Additionally, Huawei also announced that the Mate 9 Pro along with the Mate 9 Porsche Design, will eventually support Google Daydream. Currently, Google Pixel and Moto Z are the only Daydream-ready smartphones, with Asus ZenFone AR and ZTE Axon 7 eventually getting support as well. Although the Huawei Mate 9 was unveiled back in November for the 4GB RAM variant priced at 699 (approximately Rs 51,700), in the US the smartphone will however be available at $599, which translates to about Rs 41,000. Huawei Mate 9 specifications
Huawei Mate 9 comes with a 5.5-inch FHD (1080p) display with a 2.5D curved glass on top. Under the hood, it is powered by an octa-core (4 x 2.1GHz + 4 x 1.7GHz) Kirin 655 processor. However, the smartphone comes in two variants, divided on basis of its RAM and in-built storage. There is a 3GB RAM with 32GB of internal storage model, and another with 4GB RAM with 64GB storage option.
On the photography front, the smartphone sports a dual rear camera setup without the Leica branding. The camera now comes with a 12-megapixel + 2-megapixel camera. The main 12-megapixel sensor has 1.25nm pixels. The camera comes with dual-core ISP, depth measurement ISP and professional DSP for better image focusing speeds and processing. It also comes with phase detection auto-focus that the company claims works in 0.3 seconds. In the front, there s a secondary 8-megapixel selfie shooter. Armed with 3,340mAh battery, the smartphone weighs 162 grams and comes with 150.9 x 76.2 x 8.2 mm as the dimension of the phone. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11ac, 4G LTE with VoLTE voice calling support, Bluetooth, GPS and USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer. On the software front, it runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box wrapped under Emotion UI 4.1.
