Coolpad files lawsuit against Xiaomi: Wants Redmi Note 5, Mi Max 2 and Mi Note 3 among others banned

Coolpad noticed violations three months ago. After no action taken by Xiaomi, the company wants the court to ban eight of Xiaomi's devices and also wants compensation for economic losses.

About three months ago, Coolpad filed a lawsuit against Xiaomi for patent infringement. Based on a hint from its CEO though, the lawsuit was thought to have been settled outside court. However, that doesn t seem to be the case. Now, Coolpad has announced this lawsuit against Xiaomi, filed through its subsidiary company Yulong Computer Technology, is before the Shenzhen Intermediate People s Court. According to the announcement, the company discovered a patent infringement in January, and subsequently informed Xiaomi. The patent in question is software related, and is termed as Method for Implementing Call Record Interface System of Multi-Mode Mobile Communication Terminal, MyDrivers reports. Coolpad had also reported about other patent infringements related to app icon management, notifications, and system UI. As per the lawsuit, the company is calling for an immediate ban on eight Xiaomi phones that are mentioned in the infringed patent. The list of devices includes Mi MIX, Redmi Note 4X, Mi 6, Mi Max 2, Mi Note 3, Redmi Note 5, Redmi 5 Plus, and Mi 5X. Coolpad is also demanding compensation from Xiaomi for the losses incurred by the company. That could also include legal fees, notarization fees, and other reasonable fees paid towards stopping the patent infringement.

Coolpad doesn t plan on going easy with the case. Its CEO Jian Chang also hinted at filing lawsuits against other companies that have allegedly infringed 10,000 patents the company holds.Xiaomi, on the other hand, reported that it hasn t received any court papers regarding the lawsuit.
