Corning says that these two new products improve front surface reflection by 75 percent compared to other kinds of glasses. It also brings in 50 percent improvement to the display s contrast ratio while maintaining the same level brightness. This will result in better battery life.
As mentioned, the two new glasses offer these improvements while continuing to provide scratch resistance. The Glass DX is said to offer the same level of scratch resistance as a regular Gorilla Glass. The Glass DX+, on the other hand, offers improved resistance “approaching that of alternative luxury cover materials”.
It will be interesting to see what devices feature either of the Glass DX out-of-the-box. Going by Corning s words, it doesn t seem like these glasses will come cheap. Gorilla Glass DX and Gorilla Glass DX+ represent a new era of elegance for advanced mobile displays, with durable, nearly invisible surfaces even in direct sunlight, Corning says.
