After Google launched a list of its most popular apps, movies and music on Play Store, Apple has announced a list of its own. To begin with, on Apple Music, Drake topped album of the year with More Life, while Ed Sheeran s Shape of You got top song honors. Taylor Swift s album reputation has already shot up to #3 on the 2017 US top album charts, despite having only been available for a short period of time. In India, the Humma Song bagged the top song honours, followed by Ed Sheeran s Shape of You . On the other hand, Pritam s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil”, from the movie of the same title that was released last year, topped the tag of album of the year. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was also rated as the best song of 2016 by Apple.
Talking about apps, the App Store editors have identified four breakout trends in app culture for 2017. First of all, the introduction of AR (augmented reality) apps and games picked up pace this year, second they point out is the rise of real-time competitive gaming, third is the growing popularity of lifestyle apps (like Zomato or Big Basket), and finally increase in popularity of apps enabling photo and video editing. In line with their observation, even on Google, the most popular app in 2016 and 2017, has been a photo editing app, focused on selfies. Apple has credited Zombie Gunship Revenant AR, ARise, Filmr, Follow Me Dragon, as breakout trend app of 2017.
Game apps, on the other hand, were dominated by Ludo King, 8 Ball Pool, Super Mario Run, Candy Crush Saga, Sniper 3D, and others.
