The Lifelens project has created a Windows Phone app which can diagnose Malaria, reports Forbes. In a demonstration the app developers showed the app’s capability to diagnose malaria cells with the combination of the app and a special lens mount for the smartphone give the device’s camera 350 times its usual magnification. The app uses specially designed algorithms to identify different artifacts from a particular image, which detects red blood cells and in turn, malaria cells in the red blood cells. The app also has the capability to push all the data on the web including GPS coordinates enabling healthcare workers detect malaria outbreak zones. Lifelens also has a web portal feature built-in to the app that can pull all case histories on a mobile-map creating global malaria cluster zones.
