Drone maker DJI has introduced a new drone that can be folded into the size of a regular smartphone. Called DJI Mavic Air, the ultra-portable drone has been designed for the travelers and outdoor enthusiasts. It weighs about 430 grams, and is said to be the most portable DJI drone ever created.
Images of Mavic Air were leaked in a report earlier this week, but now the official announcement has been made. The drone features arms and propellers which can be folded to lend it the compact frame. It is equipped with a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor camera that is equivalent to a 24mm f/2.8 lens for capturing 4K high-quality photos and videos. Camera features include new QuickShot mode, SmartCapture, and FlightAutonomy 2.0 for safer flying.
It is capable of capturing 12-megapixel still images with support for preserving both high and low-light details, making it suitable for most outdoor shoots. It can record stabilized 4K video @30fps, which is also the highest quality video of any DJI consumer drone. It can also record 1080p slow-motion video @120 fps.
Interestingly, it is the first DJI drone to include 8GB of onboard storage, allowing you to record and store more photos and videos of longer duration. There’s also support for a microSD card for storage expansion. The drone is Type-C based for data transfer.
Mavic Air is available for pre-order on store.dji.com, DJI flagship stores, and authorized dealers. Shipping will begin from January 28. It will be available in three color choices of Onyx Black, Arctic White, and Flame Red. The retail price of $799 (approximately Rs 50,900) includes the drone, battery, remote controller, carrying case, two pairs of propeller guards and four pairs of propellers.
The Mavic Air Fly More Combo includes the drone, three batteries, a remote controller, a travel bag, two pairs of propeller guards, six pairs of propellers, a battery to power bank adapter and battery charging hub, priced at $999 (approximately Rs 63,700).
