Gone are the days when toys were enough to make kids happy. In today’s always-connected and selfie-obsessed world, (most) kids want smartphones as soon as they start school. Given how addictive smartphones can be, it’s certainly not a good idea to hand them over to children at a young age.
That said, cellular phones also have their benefits, as they allow parents to stay in touch with (and even keep tabs on) their children. So, what’s the solution?
Well, it’s a simple mobile phone that’s tailor-made for kids, and that’s exactly what the Easyfone Star is. Priced at Rs 3,490, it’s claimed to be India’s first kids phone. Easyfone says that the Star allows children to stay connected with their parents/guardians in a safe and confident manner.
Built like a regular feature phone (e.g. Nokia 105), Easyfone Star comes with a whole bunch of child-centric features. It features four large-sized keys that can be configured to speed dial specified family members, and even customized with their pictures. The phone has also quite a few security features that are combined under the name ‘Safety Ring’. One such feature allows the phone to be configured so that incoming/outgoing calls are possible only to some (maximum 20) specified numbers.
Easyfone Star has built-in GPS capabilities (with on-demand location tracking), which allow parents to keep track of their child’s location at all times. The phone comes with a tamper-proof menu and has an ‘Auto Call Back’ feature that can be used to have Easyfone Star automatically call a pre-authorised number on loudspeaker. It’s worth mentioning that the phone has no internet access capabilities, nor can it get any additional apps from other sources.

Lastly, Easyfone Star comes with a large, Red-colored ‘Help’ slider button that’s located at its back. When used, it automatically sends an SOS message and calls up to 5 family members one by one on their pre-configured numbers. The calls are repeated three times if they go unanswered, and the phone also sends the current GPS location to the configured numbers. In addition, it sounds a loud siren to alert nearby people.
Parents can easily configure their child’s Easyfone Star through the ‘CareTouch’ portal on Easyfone’s website, and the phone comes with its own cradle for charging.
