Google CEO Eric Schmidt and former SVP of products Jonathan Rosenberg recently sat down for an interview with Bloomberg reporters to talk about their new book “How Google Works” as well as company’s relationship with competitors Apple and Amazon, and how it affects the consumer.
It is no secret that Google and Apple don’t see each other eye to eye on several aspects. The companies have had several heated moments in the past, and are now competing in the mobile among several other spaces. In words of Schmidt, the competition between Apple and Google has gotten more brutal than ever, with “enormous, enormous racing” between the two. But as far as end users are concerned, this stark competition only ensures that they are being offered the best of choices.
“In fact I would say that this brutal competition between Apple and Google over Android and iOS has enormous benefits for consumers worldwide,” Schmidt said. “If you look at the innovation on the Apple side and on the Google side, that competition which I think is the defining fight of the computer industry, it benefits global at the billions of people level,” he added.
Samsung had iPhone 6 features a year ago
Schmidt also didn’t shy from taking a jab at Apple. When asked how he feels about the enormous crowd in front of Apple Stores, Schmidt said that “Samsung had these products a year ago.” referring to the new iPhone’s larger screen size and several features that have had been available on Android through several OEMs for quite some time.
Released last week, Schmidt and Rosenberg’s book “How Google Works” is now available for purchase through Amazon India and Flipkart. In addition to shedding light on various strategies that made Google what it is today, the book also notes several controversial incidents, including Eric’s meeting with late Steve Jobs, where the Apple chief was convinced that Android was based on Apple’s intellectual property.
