The Essential PH-1 smartphone although limited in terms of availability, is known for its powerful set of specifications and design as well. Essential recently rolled out Android Oreo beta for the PH-1 smartphone, and the company has now provided more information on new features arriving on the device. Through a Reddit AMA session conducted by Essential, the company said that the smartphone’s camera will get updates, portrait mode being the major one.
In terms of camera updates, the Essential Phone will be getting portrait mode, a feature which has become a must in all flagship smartphones. The Essential Phone will also get exposure compensation for all regular camera modes, reduced JPEG compression for better image quality, and stability fixes. These new features are already available through Essential’s camera app available on Google Play Store. Essential Phone users can update the Camera app to the latest version to start using these features.
During the Reddit AMA, Essential addressed most of the issues and queries asked by Essential Phone users. The company also announced that it will most likely release Android Oreo Beta v.2 next week. The second beta of Android Oreo will bring general fixes in Bluetooth performance, improve battery, and general stability improvements.
Essential Phone users who are facing scrolling jitter issues have also been assured that a fix is being worked upon. The company hopes to roll out the bug fix in the next Beta build. To a query about Essential Phone’s charging dock for the smartphone, the company assured that the last build is completed and regulatory is awaited.
Essential’s Reddit AMA comes after the company’s founder Andy Rubin announced taking leave of absence. Andy Rubin has reportedly taken leave of absence to deal with some personal matters. In his absence, Essential’s President Niccolo de Masi will be heading daily operations. Rubin’s decision was also highlighted at the Reddit AMA and the company said that “it’s business as usual here”.
