Coincidentally or not, as the Google Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL have started to ship, Andy Rubin’s company has slashed the prices of its Essential Phone. Only available in the US as of now, the Essential PH-1, which was launched at $699 (Rs 45,000 approximately) two months ago, has received a price cut, and is now available for $499 (Rs 32,500). Also, if you purchased an Essential Phone before October 22, the company is offering a $200 Friends & Family code, to use towards a new Essential Phone or Essential 360 Camera.

Although, this price cut comes along with an important piece of detail, that is, the price slash being a “limited offer”. Basically, anyone interested in the special price will have to send in their detail by November 15 in order to be eligible to receive a code for purchase under the price cut.

Niccolo de Masi, President and Chief Operating Officer of Essential, made the announcement over the weekend, noting that the move comes as the startup attempts to “make it even easier for you to experience our products and our band”. Users can purchase the handset at the revised price from, he said.

“At Essential, one of our driving principles is that premium craftsmanship and the latest technologies shouldn’t be for the few. We could have created a massive TV campaign to capture your attention, but we think making it easier for people to get their hands on our first products is a better way to get to know us,” Essential’s Masi wrote. ALSO READ: Andy Rubin teases production photos of Essential smartphone

With the Apple iPhone X going on sale early next month, and the Pixel 2 duo already out on the shelves, Essential Products is really pushing for its device, which as we all know isn’t exactly a hot cake. Baystreet Research, which tracks shipments of phones and other devices across the US, estimated last month that Essential Products has sold just 5,000 units on Sprint carrier in the US. To be fair, that does not reveal the total number of shipments of the device across all channels, it does give an estimate of the disappointing sales. ALSO READ: Essential Phone by the creator of Android checks the right boxes, but would India even care?
