Along with launching the YU Yutopia today, the Micromax-backed company today also launched an integrated platform that is pre-loaded on the Yutopia. The idea behind Around YU is to do away with the need to download and install multiple apps on your smartphone. In other words, if you need to make travel plans, book cabs or order food, rather than using multiple apps, you can use Around YU. The platform can be accessed by swiping right on the Yutopia s homescreen.
In the first phase, Around YU will offer contextual information for categories like food, shopping and travel (flights, cabs and hotels). For shopping, information will be sourced from Scandid, which will not only look for a particular product on various portals, but also notify where you can get them at the lowest price. Ixigo will offer the best prices for flight and bus tickets, hotel rooms, as well as train status. YU also plans to soon add the ability to book tickets on Around YU.
The two aforementioned companies, were acquired by YU s parent company Micromax, earlier this year. Speaking of which, Micromax had also invested in Gaana, which will be the default music player and music streaming app on YU s smartphones.
As for food and cabs, Around YU will get the information from Zomato and Ola. Besides letting users search for restaurants, users will also be able to read reviews and call up a restaurant to book a table. As for Ola, it will let users book Ola or Taxi for Sure cabs from the platform itself.
A user spends a lot of his time with his mobile device and at various times of the day he may be looking for entertainment (music, video content), shopping, food, travel etc. While doing that multiple apps need to be installed on the device and that leads a user to juggle between too much information. With Around YU, we have smartly integrated most of these functions and have done backend tie ups with the best in class providers in the category, Rahul Sharma, founder YU said.
The company has also announced a bunch of introductory offers for Around YU users. Ola is offering Rs 100 off on the first cab ride, while the fourth ride will be free. Zomato will be offering 15 percent discount on food ordered via the platform. Ixigo, on the other hand, is offering 500 users a chance to book a flight ticket for only Re 1. Gaana is offering free Gaana Plus subscription to users for six months.
