Facebook’s status update window usually asks users ‘What’s on your mind?’ In addition to this question, Facebook today is also reminding users with a message, ‘The US Open starts today’. To further drive the message in, Facebook has also added a picture of a tennis ball in the status bar. This isn’t visible to everyone at the moment, which means it could be a gradual rollout, or only visible to people who have listed Tennis as one of their interests. Google, on the other hand, has dedicated a doodle to the tournament on its US homepage. This animated doodle shows the letters ‘O’ and ‘G’ playing a tense match. The US Open is the season’s final Grand Slam following the Australian Open, the French Open and Wimbledon. As mentioned above, Marin Cilic and Serena Williams will be defending their crown as US Open champions. Williams is also on the brink of becoming the first woman since Steffi Graf in 1988, to complete a calendar-year Grand Slam, or in other words, win all the major Grand Slams in 12 months.
