The Play Store s listing of Facebook has revised the number of install counts to 1,000,000,000 – 5,000,000,000, suggesting that the billion count has been registered. It is worth noting that we are only considering the numbers from Google s Play Store, and the count would go way up should we introduce Amazon s App Store, Nokia Store and other third party Android app stores into the mix. Facebook is the fourth app, after Google Maps, YouTube and Gmail to cross the milestone. Though unlike Google apps, Facebook doesn t come preinstalled on a vast majority of handsets. Facebook is now trying to drive more users to use its messenger app, Facebook Messenger. The company has already given all its Android users an ultimatum that it will shortly discontinue the ability to send messages through the Facebook app. At present, Facebook Messenger s install count is in between 500,000,000 – 1,000,000,000.
WhatsApp, the instant messaging client that Facebook bought in February is also likely to hit the one billion install count soon. The company recently revealed that it has over 600 million active monthly users.
