Facebook has been making changes geared towards the growth of the platform as a video viewing one. To compete with platforms like YouTube, Amazon and Netflix, Facebook has been launching new features that enhance the platform’s video viewing experience.
One of these features that Facebook launched in January on an experimental basis is called Watch Party. Using this feature members of a group can watch a particular video all at the same time as a shared watching experience like a movie theater. This feature was previously only available with select users, but now the company is bringing it to all its users. This feature will work for pre-recorded as well as live videos.
Facebook plans to push ahead with this feature to all groups because it has apparently received a very positive feedback from the users and group admins have reported that this format has turned out to be the perfect method to watch Q and A sessions and how to tutorials. And with the surge Facebook has been witnessing in the Live video feature, Watch Party will definitely become big according to the company.
Facebook plans to extend the Watch Party feature to beyond groups to individuals as well as pages. Facebook reports that the feature was used by groups to watch video that were 10 hours long and the success of platforms like Twitch only proves that there is a big potential for such a feature.

Watch Party could be a good shared experience for families when conducted from a profile which is similar when it comes to brands and pages. The goal of the feature is to help people interacting more on the platform.
