Apple s iOS 6 Maps was one of the biggest fiascos for the Cupertino-based company and its repercussions were felt by Apple s employees, especially Richard Williamson who oversaw the iOS 6 Maps team and was subsequently fired from the company. According to a Bloomberg report, Facebook has hired Richard Williamson as its director of engineering earlier this month. Williamson, who joined Apple as a senior software engineer in 2001, was promoted to senior director of iOS platform services last year and was given the responsibility to oversee the iOS 6 Maps team. Post the fiasco, Apple s senior vice-president of Internet software and services, Eddy Cue is said to have fired Williamson and taken over the task to rectify the erroneous Maps service.
Williamson will be joining other Apple s ex-employees at Facebook including the likes of Greg Novick, a former iPhone manager, software designers Mike Matas and Kimon Tsinteris, and engineers Scott Goodson, Tim Omernick and Chris Tremblay. The report also claims that a contingent of Apple s alumni had an important role to play in the development of Facebook s recently launched Home.
