Facebook has announced it is rolling out augmented reality (AR) games for its Messenger’s group video chat option. It has introduced first two AR video chat games that you can play with up to six people during video chats.
Now people with the updated Messenger app will see the feature being rolled out from today. With this, you will be able to challenge your friends during a group video chat. The two games: see who can hold a serious face the longest with “Don’t Smile”, or see who can better navigate their spaceship with “Asteroids Attack” are bring introduced for now, but Facebook has plans to introduce more such AR games in “the coming weeks and months.”
“We’re planning to roll out more games in the coming weeks and months – including passing a beach ball back and forth with “Beach Bump” and a matching cat game with “Kitten Kraze” – so make sure to check back often!,” said Facebook in Newsroom post.
Facebook says that it built these games itself using the AR Studio tool. For now, Facebook won’t be putting any ads or sponsored branding or in-app purchases in these AR games, Messenger’s video chat games.
In order to try these AR games, Facebook Messenger users need to make sure that they have the latest version of app installed first. Then open an existing conversation or find the person or group of people you’d like to chat with and tap the video icon on the upper right corner of the screen. After this, simply tap the star button and select one of the AR games.
