Facebook, the world’s largest social network, isn’t averse to cloning popular apps. After Snapchat, the company is now chasing the short-form video sensation app TikTok from China. Facebook’s version of the app is called Lasso, and it is available on Android and iOS platforms, but only for users in the US as of now.

Lasso will let users create fun and short 15-second videos with favorite tunes playing in the background. With Lasso, Facebook is aiming to win over teens, among whom TikTok is immensely popular. Besides recording themselves lip-syncing and dancing to the music, users can also record shot clips like Vines, and share on the social media platform.

“Lasso is a new standalone app for short-form, entertaining videos — from comedy to beauty to fitness and more. We’re excited about the potential here, and we’ll be gathering feedback from people and creators,” Facebook told The Verge.

As noted by the publication, users in the US can sign in to Lasso using their Instagram credentials, or create an account using Facebook. The app will also need you to authorize access to your photos, videos and your public profile. Once the setup is complete, you can scroll through the short videos that auto-play as you pass through them.

The platform also supports hashtags, and you can filter the ones based on your needs. Videos make using Lasso can be shared on the platform and also as Facebook stories, and an option to share the same on Instagram stories to become available in the next few weeks.
