Happy mid-working week friends. We have two more days to go for the weekend and couldn t be more excited. There s plenty of stuff that happened in the tech world today and here s a quick recap of the interesting stories for you.

To sum it, Facebook announced a new feature today called Lip Sync Live, which will be competing with It was also noticed that Reliance Jio 4G download speeds were reported to be down by 33 percent compared to the last two months. However, as always, the most eventful stories of the day were around the smartphone industry. Plenty of phones were launched today, starting with the much-anticipated HTC Desire 12 and the HTC Desire 12+. We also got a glimpse of Honor s new gaming smartphone called the Honor Play. It was announced alongside the Honor 9i. LG expanded its Q series by launching the new LG Q Stylus. Lastly, we saw Xiaomi launch a teaser for a new smartphone, which could be the Redmi 6. Let s look at each of these stories a little bit in detail.


Facebook announced Lip Sync Live

Facebook just announced a new feature called Lip Sync Live, which will be part of Facebook Live and will allow users to add music to their personal videos and select music to play on top of it. With the new feature, Facebook will be taking on the likes of and Dubsmash.

Facebook has also added a 'With feature, which lets users use Lip Sync Live along with their friends and loved ones. Not just that, since the feature is a part of Facebook Live, users can apply filters and different backgrounds while using the feature. Users will also be able to see the song and its details, so they can simply tap on it to check out the original song or follow the artist.


Xiaomi Redmi 6 set to launch in China on June 12

After hosting a big launch event in China, Xiaomi seems to be getting ready to host another event on June 12, possibly to launch the Redmi 6. The Chinese company hinted so by putting up a teaser on its Weibo account. The launch teaser depicts a large 6, which is a clear indication that it plans to launch the Redmi 6 series.

Rumors have suggested the phone to come with 5.84-inch FHD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood is likely to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC clocked at 2.0GHz. The phone is expected to be launched in three variants 16GB+2GB RAM, 32GB+3GB RAM, and 64GB+4GB RAM. It is also said come with a 3,900mAh battery and Android 8.1 Oreo layered with MIUI 10

Besides that, there are also speculations of two other Redmi 6 variants coming to the market. They are expected to be dubbed as Redmi 6A and Redmi 6 Pro. The former is said to come with 5.45-inch HD+ 18:9 display, Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC, and 3,000mAh battery, while the latter is said to come with 5.84-inch FHD+ 18:9 display, an octa-core chipset and 4,000mAh battery. Both variants are said to come with three different RAM and storage configurations.

LG Q Stylus with 6.2-inch FullVision display launched

LG is expanding its Q series of smartphones with the LG Q Stylus. As the name suggests, the smartphone comes with a stylus for inking and taking notes on the go. The phone also features a metallic unibody chassis that is water and dust resistant, thanks to its IP68 ingress rating. For faster charging and data transfer, the phone also comes with USB Type-C port now. The key highlight however is the 6.2-inch FullVision display that features a resolution of 2160 1080 pixels. Underneath the hood, the phone will be running an octa-core chipset.

There are three different variants available called Q stylus, Q Stylus and Q Stylus+. The standard Q Stylus and Q Stylus comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, while the Q Stylus+ comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. They also come with different camera setups. The LG Q Stylus gets a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel wide-angle selfie camera. The Q Stylus and the Q Stylus+ feature a 16-megapixel main and option between 8-megapixel or 5-megapixel wide-angle selfie camera. The LG Q Stylus runs Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box, and is backed by a 3,300mAh battery

HTC Desire 12, Desire 12+ launched in India

HTC has just launched the Desire 12 and Desire 12+ in India. Both phones are priced at 15,800, and Rs 19,790 respectively. The phones are available in two colors called Cool Black and Warm Silver, and will go on sale through HTC s offline and online retail channels from June 11.

Both phones boast 18:9 display. However, the HTC Desire 12 has 5.5-inch HD+ screen, while the HTC Desire 12+ has a 6-inch HD+ display. The HTC Desire 12 uses MediaTek MT6739 SoC, coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It also features a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. It is backed by a 2,730mAh battery.

On the other hand, the HTC Desire 12+ features Snapdragon 450 SoC, which is paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Being the more expensive one of the lot, it also comes with a dual-camera setup at the rear comprising of a 13-megapixel primary sensor and 2-megapixel secondary sensor. At the front there is an 8-megapixel shooter. The battery here amounts up to 2,965mAh. The HTC Desire 12+ runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with Sense UI on top, but the Android version on HTC Desire 12 is not specified.

Honor Play and Honor 9i launched

Honor just launched its first gaming smartphone called the Honor Play, alongside a mid-range handset called Honor 9i. Honor Play takes on other gaming smartphones with premium specifications. It comes powered by Huawei s own Kirin 970 chipset, which features a turbo boosted GPU to deliver a seamless gaming experience. It also features a 6.3-inch display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels.

There are two variants available. The base model comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage, while the higher-end model comes with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage. Honor has also equipped it with Histen audio tech to deliver a better audio output. The phone is fueled by a 3,750mAh battery and runs on Android 8.1 Oreo layered with EMUI 8.1. There is a dual camera setup at the back as well

The Honor 9i is a reboot of the smartphone with the same name, but this time it comes with a notch display. The smartphone now features a 5.84-inch display supporting a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels and 19:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by Kirin 659 chipset, and supports 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It also features a dual-camera setup at the rear combining 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel image sensors. At the front you get a 16-megapixel camera powered by AI enhancement and features. The Honor 9i runs Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8.0 out of the box and has a 3,000mAh battery.

Reliance Jio s 4G download speeds down in April

According to a recent TRAI report, Reliance Jio saw another decrease in its 4G download speeds in the month of April. The report states that the service provider s speeds averaged at 14.7Mbps in April 2018, which is almost 33 percent less thati what it was two months ago (21.3Mbps). This is the second straight month that its overall 4G speeds have decreased, and the third time this year.

According to OpenSignal report, Airtel is the clear leader in India when it comes to 4G speeds. It is followed by Vodafone and Idea Cellular, and Reliance Jio, which comes in at fourth. Comparing the numbers for April, Airtel offered 4G speeds at 9.2Mbps, followed by Idea at 7.4Mbps, and Vodafone at 7.1Mbps. The data can be accessed using the MySpeed app.
