Facebook has rolled out a new tool that would help non-profit organizations host fund raising campaigns on their Facebook pages. The tool, called Fundraisers, lets organizations set donation goals and also shows the number of backers and the money they have been able to raise. The move comes after Facebook rolled out a Donate Now button for all non-profit organization pages in August this year. Along with Fundraisers, whose UI reminds us of sites like Kickstarter and its ilk, Facebook has also updated the Donate Now button. Users who have donated money to a cause will also be able to share their deed with their friends. The new Donate Now button will not only be featured on the organization’s page, but also on the posts. So if a user shares that he has donated some money to a cause, that post too will have the donate button. The idea behind embedding the button on posts is that other users too will be able to donate money without having to leave Facebook.
We hope these features help nonprofits reach new supporters, engage their community and get the valuable funding they need to continue their good work, Naomi Gleit, VP of Product Management wrote on the company s blog.
Facebook is launching the new Fundraisers tool in partnership with 37 organizations that include the likes of Mercy Corps, Save the Children, Water.org, National Multiple Sclerosis Society and World Wildlife Fund to name a few.
