Mentions: The Mentions feature is not unlike the Whatsapp Group chat feature wherein members of a chat can respond to specific individuals in the group by adding a @ before their name and responding. The process to mention someone is the same just add a @ before their name. Others in the group will see it as highlighted text. Facebook has also tweaked the way notifications for mentions are delivered. Instead of seeing just a notification, the group member to whom the message is directed will get a message informing them that they have been specifically tagged. Message Reactions: Coming to Message Reactions, the new feature is just like a small timeline in the group chat where other members can respond to a particular message with emoticons. The entire range of Messenger emoticons is available for message reactions. Once a group member reacts to a particular message, others in the group can see the reactions to the bottom right of the message. Everyone can see who has reacted with what emoji. Apart from the emoticons, chat members can also use text, stickers, videos, GIFs and even other emoji. Reactions feature works on one-on-one as well as group chats.
The reaction will appear in the form of an animation, the first time a user sees it. Once someone reacts to a message on Facebook Messenger, the individual who posted the message will get a separate notification for the same. Notifications for Reactions and Mentions can both be turned off at any time. The new feature will be rolled out to Work Chat in Workplace too.
