Facebook Messenger hit with a bug that causes iOS devices to freeze

Re-installing or re-launching the Facebook Messenger app seems to be of no help either.

Some Facebook Messenger users have recently complained that their iOS devices freeze while typing. Apparently, it’s so bad that they are barely able to type more in bunch of words in a line and the app freezes. Users have said that shutting and relaunching the app seems to be of no help, neither did deleting and reinstalling the app make any difference. This was first reported by TechCrunch, and as for now there is no word on what is causing the bug and how can it be fixed. BGR India has also reached out to Facebook to know more about the issue.

Let us make this clear here that while this issue is widely affecting iOS users, it does not necessarily affect all of them. We are using an iOS device, and have faced no such issues.

Unfortunately, Messenger has not been in news for the best reasons lately. Last month, the platform was reported to be hit with a cryptocurrency-mining bot named “Digmine”, that was first observed in South Korea, and spread fast through Facebook Messenger across the world.

Any such bugs or malware are always critical, and not just for Facebook but for the general public, since Messenger has over 1 billion users. In December 2017, Facebook shared just how popular the platform has become over the years. Last year it recorded that people did 17 billion real time video chats in 2017. People shared over 500 billion emojis in 2017, or nearly 1.7 billion every day. GIFs were a popular choice too, with 18 billion GIFs shared in this year.
