Facebook Messenger turns into Snapchat clone with My Day feature; here’s how it works

Messenger Day is Facebook’s new inspiration from Snapchat.


Looks like Facebook won t stop until it duplicates each of its platforms into Snapchat clones. After Instagram and WhatsApp, Facebook s Messenger has now adopted the Stories feature. Calling it the Messenger Day, the feature has begun rolling out to both iOS and Android today, and all users will receive the update by the end of the day. Although you probably already know how it works, because, well, social media has turned into one big ball of Stories now. Nonetheless, the recently added in-built camera into the Messenger, which earlier allowed users to only share images and videos with their friends on their contact list, now also lets user set these images or videos as their Stories. Essentially, when you launch the Messenger app, you d see the camera option at the bottom of the screen. Tap on that, click an image or record a video, add the filters you want, doodle whatever, once you are done, you select the right arrow there. Now where the recipient list shows up, right above the camera roll option, (after the update) you will now see a My Day option, which is basically the stories feature. The My Day posts, like stories, are visible to all your friends for 24 hours, and it disappears after that.


In addition to that, you can also add a post to My Day from a conversation you re having with a friend or group of people. After you send a photo or video, you ll see the option to add to your day. Further, for privacy, it s up to you if you want to share your day with everyone you talk to on Messenger or just your closest friends and family. So, Facebook allows you to customize how you share by tapping the more icon and then choosing Everyone Except or Custom . If you share something to your day that you decide you want to take down, just tap the image at the top of your inbox, then tap the three dots at the bottom right hand corner of your image, and then Delete .


While the feature has gone live today, it has been a while since Facebook has been expected to roll it out on the Messenger. It was after back in October last year, when Facebook began testing the Messenger Day feature in Poland. ALSO READ: Facebook Reactions for Messenger has a Dislike option


Besides, recently, Facebook-owned WhatsApp also received the same feature, where the stories have been added to the Status tab of the messaging app. Basically, aside from the text status updates, WhatsApp users can now add images and videos as status, which disappear after 24 hours.
