Facebook starts rolling out Google Now-style personalized notifications tab


Facebook has made a handful of changes to the notifications tab in its smartphone app. The new update comes with a refreshed design for notifications tab, which brings in simple, cleaner and organized information for users. The notification tab will now alert users about birthdays and life events of their friends, upcoming events along with TV reminders and sports scores based on the Pages that users have liked. For those who have enabled Location History in the Facebook app, the notifications can also alert about things happening around in the community, weather updates, list of places to eat and drink, and also the movies that are playing in the nearby theatres. Facebook has also posted a video that offers a glimpse at the new notification tab at work. From the video we can see that the notification tab offers information on comments and likes on posts, birthdays and trending news among others. For those who are not interested in receiving information on certain topics, there is an option to turn them off.

We ve heard feedback that people wanted to add important information that they can easily see, all in one place, said Keith Peiris, the Product Manager at Facebook. He further added saying that the update won t change the current notification settings and users can adjust them anytime they want. Users will also get to fine tune and customize the information by adding more cards from the bottom of the tab.

The new app update with personalized tab is gradually rolling out to Facebook for iPhone and Android in the US. There is however, no word on the availability of this feature in other regions.
