Facebook has made it easier for us to remember birthdays, even of those we are only remotely acquainted with. And thanks to the feature, people are actually taking out time to wish each other, with over 45 million people sending birthday wishes through Facebook each day! And now, as our digital life expands, the Mark Zuckerberg-led social network is aiming to move a step ahead towards the renewed mission – “Bring the world closer together” – by introducing two new birthday experiences on the platform. Since childhood, you are taught about the importance of charity and being nice to others, especially on your birthday. Facebook’s new feature will now make it easier for those who want to do charity on their birthday, because finding time to personally visit an NGO or charity is too old school. With the new feature, two weeks before your birthday, Facebook will suggest you to create a fundraiser for your birthday (not for the party, though). These can be created for any of the non-profits available for fundraising on Facebook. ALSO READ: Facebook Camera adds GIF-maker, Live abilities to drive usage of Stories
Once you create the event, your friends will receive a notification, inviting them to contribute to your cause on the occasion, and together you can make your birthday more meaningful. Facebook launched the donate button in 2013, and introduced a personal fundraiser tool earlier this year in March. Essentially, this birthday charity feature, is an amalgamation of the donate and personal fundraiser tools. However, just like the two, the new birthday fundraiser feature is also currently limited to users and non-profits based in the US.
While the birthday reminders are automated by default, Facebook now makes it easier to even wish friends. As part of the new update, you will see auto-generated videos, which you can share with your friend. The shareable birthday videos are curated from the photos and videos of you and your friends. These videos will be shown to you on the day of a close friend s birthday. ALSO READ: Facebook design updated for better readability; Instagram gets comment thread
