Apple hasn’t revealed any official timeline for the launch of its first ever smartwatch that was unveiled last September. The latest report claimed that the Apple Watch will see the light of the day in March. But even before the smartwatch hits the market, alleged prototypes are already surfacing on the Internet, and an eBay user has just managed to sell one such ‘Apple Watch prototype’ on the site for $260.
Calling it an ‘Apple Watch prototype’, the seller claims that he got it from his cousin who works for the Cupertino company. The image shows the device clad with a cheap leather belt and a plastic sticker on top, testifying that it’s a fake. It also has an Apple logo on the back, but that does not mean it’s actually out from the Apple oven. Also if it is, the cousin at Apple is in loads of trouble.
The user on eBay goes by the name ‘mattoo13’ and is based out of United States. The ‘smartwatch prototype’ seller has managed to rake up a bid of $260, with almost 31 people bidding for it.
As we already know, Apple was set to begin mass production early 2015, and will reportedly launch it in March. It will be selling three variants of the Watch — Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition. While it has revealed that the most basic version of Apple Watch will be priced at $349, it hasn’t offered specific pricing information for the rest of the versions. Recent leaks however claim that the stainless steel variant could be priced around $500, while the gold variant will be priced between $4,000 and $5,000.
