Flipkart has invited a bit of a controversy and is being accused of creating fake discounts on its site to lure customers. While customers continue to lash out on social media against these unfair practices, the company says that it relies on sellers to provide correct information on MRP. Flipkart further said that it adopts zero tolerance policy towards wrongful information, and has now suspended those sellers who offered fake discounts. A Flipkart spokesperson told BGR India, Flipkart is a marketplace which helps sellers connect with customers across the country. We have investigated the incident and after receiving the full report we have suspended the sellers. Flipkart adopts a zero tolerance policy towards any instances where the seller has sold a product above the MRP stated on the label. The company also said that it should not be blamed for those ‘fake discounts’ as it solely relies and trusts sellers to provide the correct information. “Flipkart takes utmost care in ensuring that product information on the marketplace is not misleading and for this, we rely on our sellers to share correct information with us, the spokesperson said.
While Flipkart scans through its vortex of products to sort out the ‘fake discount’ mishap, it is recommended to check the real MRP before blindly believing a discount offer on online sites.
