E-commerce sites have come under the scanner many times for their predatory pricing policies. Often, while browsing through Flipkart, Amazon or Snapdeal, you come across these heavy discounts on products that you just cannot ignore. However, a Flipkart customer has brought to light that as lucrative these offers might look, they are manipulated and fake. Facebook user Mani Shankar Sen showcased an example of just how the ecommerce site intentionally increases the price of products to create the fake illusion of massive discounts. Sen uploaded a screenshot from Flipkart clearly showing that the MRP of a pair of canvas wedges were intentionally increased to fool the consumer that he was getting a 50 percent discount. Another user Sarthak Sekhar shared a similar screenshot, where Formujet Inkjet Ink 200ml bottle had an MRP of Rs 1,100 on Flipkart. The real price of the ink bottle was only Rs 300 and was clearly printed on the bottle displayed on the site.

A Twitter user Sunil posted more screenshots showing many other ‘mind blowing’ discounts offered by Flipkart.

Customers are recommended to be alert and check the real MRP of products before purchasing products from online websites. We have contacted Flipkart, but did not receive any response at the time of publishing this article.
